[THOUGHTS] The Kind of Friendship We All Need

    Friends | DarlaOct.com
It seems like we have come to an agreement over the premise that as we grow old, we tend to have smaller group of friends. It’s true—well, at least for me. The difference between the friendship I had in high school and uni and the one I have right now is about 15:4. That is a huge difference.

It’s inevitable, though. As a freelancer, I don’t have work friends. My neighbourhood only consists of two families (the rest of the houses on our block are vacant): one family is a mother with a second grader daughter and the other one is rarely home. I have small exchanges with them quite often, but that is it. Just small talks for hospitality. I used to have quite a big girl gang in high school, but we only talk irregularly in a group chat nowadays. And then I’ve found out that we’ve grown to become people with different views and interests. I’m no longer comfortable around them. My uni friends are all busy: one is a working mother, one is teaching in another city, and one is working remotely for an overseas company.

And me? I’m huge and clumsy due to my pregnancy.

And friendship should be maintained. Like any other kind of relationships, friendship needs efforts from all parties involved.

Therefore, whenever I have a chance to see them, I’ll go. Even if it’s only for a sushi dinner, or a movie, or just a quick visit to see their cats.

I’m lucky to still have friends who can be seen in an instant. Just a text “Infinity War this Wednesday?” and “Let’s go!” and then off we go.

I believe that’s the kind of friendship we all need.

    [LIFE] Pregnancy Update #1

Pregnancy Update #1 | Hola Darla
As it turns out, pregnancy changes me as well. Before getting pregnant, I always wondered why people made such a fuss about knowing the baby’s sex before it was born. Just wait for it! I thought. Now that I’m 22 weeks along, I’m really dying to know whether I’m having a boy or a girl. I read an article somewhere that the sex of the baby can be seen at as soon as 16 weeks, so last month when I was about 19 weeks along we had another ultrasound scan to check, but nope. The baby wouldn’t show it. It meant we had to wait for another month to schedule another scan, which we will be having this Friday. I’m praying to god that this time the baby won’t hide it because I’m. Just. Dying. To. Know. C’mon, Baby!

  • [LIFE] Word for 2018: L E A R N

    [LIFE] Word for 2018: L E A R N

Word for 2018: LEARN | Hola Darla

    Once again: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I’m back again in my own house, sleeping in my own bed, playing with my own cats (if you followed my Instagram stories throughout our trip, you might see that we met a bunch of cats during the vacation LOL!). Husband is back at work again. The trip already feels like a journey from a long time ago. That kind of feeling always hits me every early January, like all the celebration we did on NYE is from months ago. Does anyone feel the same?

So, anyway. I’ve found my word for this year:

    LEARN

This year will bring a lot of new things for me, so I’ve got a lot to learn. In about 5 months, I’m gonna be a mother and this is the very first time for me. I feel like this is one thing I can’t afford to mess up. I’m going to nurture a human being! It sounds so scary but I’m also very excited. So that’s my priority: to learn about parenting.

Besides parenting, I would also like to learn to be more organized, especially in housekeeping. Luckily, I found #DeclutterLikeAMother challenge. I was already a bit late when I signed up for it, but I’m willing to keep up.

Now, what about you? Is one word for the year a thing for you? I’d like to know what word you chose for 2018 🙂

PS. We’re having our next appointment with the OBGYN tomorrow to (hopefully) be able to see the sex of the baby!

Thank You and Good Bye, 2017!

Skyscrapers in Jakarta 2017 | Hola Darla

By the time you’re reading this post, I will be halfway through my trip round Java with my husband. We started planning this trip right before finding out about the pregnancy. Thank goodness that I’m already through the first trimester at the time of the trip. It ends up being some sort of babymoon for us, but that’s a story for another post.

In 2017, I didn’t write as many posts that I did last year, so I decided not to put a round up of links. Instead, I’m writing the thing that I am most grateful for this year: It’s this baby inside my belly.

I hope everything goes smoothly and perfectly for us in 2018. I’m both excited and anxious about what changes 2018 (and the baby) will bring to our life!

    Happy New Year, friends!

    We’re Having a Baby!

14 Weeks Ramadhana Kecil Baby Announcement | Hola Darla

We are so excited to announce that Ramadhana Kecil is due in early June 2018!

I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant and finally back on my feet after being miserable for weeks of being nauseated 24/7. The first trimester was not fun at all, but at least the baby and I are both healthy + thriving and that’s what really matters now.

Talk to you later, friends! xoxo
