Mount Tangkuban Parahu with A’s Family

Posted in family, him, traveling by

My boyfriend’s family visited the city for four days to attend his graduation ceremony, which was on Wednesday. And on Thursday, I accompanied them to Mount Tangkuban Parahu. It had been ages since the last time I went there, like… elementary school, perhaps? So it was quite exciting to visit the mount and its biggest crater, Kawah Ratu, again. I didn’t bring my camera with me. I didn’t take any picture with my phone either, so these pictures were all taken with my boyfriend’s phone. I also noticed that we didn’t take any picture of the scenery; they were all of our faces. So narcissistic, no? LOL :p

idGeekGirls Share #2 Food and Social Media

Posted in eating, internet, weekend by

Taking pictures of your food and then posting them up on Instagram has become such a common thing nowadays. It started out simply as a fun way to share what you were having for lunch, but then it got big and bigger, and now we what we call as foodstagrammers (I know this guy and this girl in real life). This phenomenon was what drove the idGeekGirls community to hold a small talk show called “idGeekGirls Share #2 Food and Social Media” on Saturday. This event took place in 90 Gourmet restaurant. There were four speakers and around 20 participants.

For about one hour, we talked about the effects of foodstagram (and food blogs in general) from restaurant owners’ point of view, how to write a good food review, how some restaurant owners handle complains delivered through social media, food styling, and many other things. I also met some people among the participants, like fellow bloggers, an owner of a newly opened restaurant, a reporter from a local newspaper, etc. We were given lunch of our choice (I chose Chicken Maryland which was super yummy), and then after we had our lunch, the event was closed with quizzes and giveaways.

For a free event, it was pretty awesome. The talk show was very informative and it gave me new knowledge in foodstagram and food blogging. Besides getting a big lunch, I also went home bringing a goodie bag plus a (huge) jar of cookies. I’m definitely looking forward to joining another event by idGeekGirls.

On Longing to be Anywhere but Here

Posted in life as i know it by

Have you ever wondered how your life would be if you had taken another path? I’ve been wondering where I would be and what I’d be doing if I had chosen to go to another university in another city rather than going to the one in this city and living with my parents. I’ve always been so jealous of those kids who get to move out of their parents’ house just as soon as they graduate high school and get into college. Even though still living with your parents after graduating high school is socially acceptable here in my country, I still feel like I’ve skipped one step in the whole growing up process. For more than 22 years, I’ve been living with the security of being protected by my parents: living in their house, eating their food, spending their money, etc. I have absolutely no idea how to manage my spendings because everytime I run out of money, I can just run to my mum or my dad and they will give me extra cash. That’s how it rolls ’round here.

And that’s not healthy at all.

Lately I’ve been thinking about moving out and start my own life independently. With the university life almost over (I will present my final paper later this month!) and graduation day just a few months away, I will have to start looking for a job soon. The only way I can move out is if I get a job in another city, because there is no way my parents are letting me live on my own if it is still in Bandung (the living cost will be much cheaper if I stay, of course). I’ve been perusing the job openings in some websites but nothing seems to match my qualifications. I never thought that it would be hard to find a job as an English teacher, but apparently teaching is mostly the kind of job you are offered with, not the one that you are applying for.

I’m also looking for some alternatives, though. Using my skills in written and spoken English, I may apply for a job in journalism or publishing. I regret not having other experiences besides teaching. I should’ve had a back up plan. Now it may be too late for me to apply for internships, no?

God, why am I so bad at this whole growing up thing…

    Captain America: The Winter Soldier

    Posted in movies by

Three years ago, I hadn’t become a huge fan of Marvel yet. While the first Captain America was playing in theatres, I didn’t even bother watching it. I finally watched it for the first time in Ian’s house while talking about a lot of things and not really paying attention to the movie. I concluded that it was boring. It was slow and dull and too dark and simply not my taste.

Fast forward to 2014, I’m already an avid fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m also so into watching movie premieres. Combine the two facts, and you will know that I watched The Winter Soldier premiere yesterday. I can’t really tell if it was better than The First Avenger or not, since saying so serves no justice to the first movie as I didn’t really watch it. However, I can say that I like The Winter Soldier, especially in terms of the captain’s costume. I’m not really a fan of the uniform he wore on The Avengers and I like this one better (not too tight, but still sexy. Haha!) This movie also has typical Marvel jokes; ones that get thrown at precise timing. I also like how they could fit Stan Lee in to a small, very brief cameo role, and yet very remarkable.

I really want to talk further about how I love its story, but I’m afraid it will give you spoilers. Let me say it, then: go watch it! Even if you’re not into Marvel, I’m quite sure you’ll love it.

    Meet the Parents

    Posted in family by

Today, I finally got the chance to meet A’s family (minus one of his sisters). His mum is an elementary school teacher. She and her fellow teachers plus their families are on a vacation to Bandung and Jakarta this weekend. They visited Sari Ater this morning, so A and I went there to see them.

I had always felt so anxious about meeting them. I’m sure that the anxiety was normal (right?). Turns out, his mum is super nice (without exaggeration) and very pretty (again, no exaggeration). I didn’t talk too much with his dad, though. It’s always kinda awkward for me to talk to dads. I don’t know why. I need to work this out ASAP. His sisters are also super nice. One of them who is in high school is already friends with me on Facebook. We’ve talked a lot through Facebook Chat and BBM, so when I finally met her in person, we could go on talking quite naturally. His youngest sister looked kinda shy around me, but we had a nice talk about her new pink watch-through whispering. Haha. She’s very cute 🙂
