Veronica Mars #2 Mr Kiss and Tell review
Forgive me for being absent. I’ve been feeling unwell since two days ago, and I went on a crazy motorcycle ride through a flooding road in a heavy rain yesterday and that added sneezing to the list. The sunny side is… I managed to finish reading Veronica Mars #2, yay! But I haven’t continued my reading for Good Omens (this month’s book for the NovelTea Book Club). I need to read more today so I can catch up with this week’s discussion, but in the meantime, I think I’ll share with you what I like and what I don’t like from Veronica Mars #2 Mr Kiss and Tell.

You see, I’m head over heels for Veronica Mars. I had heard about the TV series since years ago, but hadn’t had the chance to watch it until last year. So I binge-watched like crazy and finished two seasons in a week (yeah I can be that mad when it comes to binge watching. Plus, I was unemployed at that time, so I had plenty of time to waste. Haha!). I was over the moon when they released the movie last year. The timing couldn’t be better than that. I had just finished watching the whole series right before the movie was released. It was a bliss.

That same year, the first book was also released (see? 2014 was my year!). My local bookstore is unreliable when it comes to providing imported books, so I bought a digital version of the novel titled The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line. The book tells the story a few months after the events in the movie and it also reveals what happens to Veronica’s mother after the last time she sees her in the TV series. I really like the book. I gave it four stars on Goodreads.

The second book, Mr Kiss and Tell, was planned to be released the same year, but then was delayed until January this year. Right after the release date, I went to my local bookstore, but of course they didn’t have it. They had the first book though, months after the release date. Yes, they are that bad. I couldn’t bear to wait for four weeks of shipping if I bought the paperback version online, so I decided to once again order a digital copy. Instant download and I started reading. Here are my thoughts about it (spoilers alert!).

    • Lots of Logan, yay! In the first book, Logan is on duty off shore somewhere at the Arabic sea. He only appears a few times in the book when he and Veronica are Skype-ing, but in the second book he is off duty and they live together in Veronica’s small apartment. And they have a puppy! There are some points in the book where I became so afraid that they would break up, but thank goodness they stay together through out the story. There’s still a sad ending, though, but you have to read it because I won’t spoil it here. Haha!
    • Weevil wins his case and it ignites another case of planted evidence against the sheriff department. The department has been corrupted since the TV series, so it’s nice to finally see them getting in trouble for what they have done. Oh and Sheriff Lamb has a serious competitor in the election. Who knows maybe Neptune can finally be a nice place?

    • The main case itself is kinda boring. The mystery is solved half way through the book, but since the evidences and the witnesses are a bit unreliable, the second half of the book is Veronica trying to prove that Mr Kiss and Tell is guilty of the crime. I personally prefer whodunnit mystery ala Agatha Christie, something that presents in the first book, so this book’s mystery is not too appealing to me. But if that’s your cup of tea, you will like it.
    • That’s it! All the other aspects are good.

From what I’ve read in the Internets, Rob Thomas and the publishing house only signed a deal for two books. People are speculating about third and more books. Seeing all the reviews and Marshmallows’ excitement over the movie and the book series, I’m quite sure that this is not the end of Veronica Mars. Perhaps Netflix would pick up a new series? Everything is possible, my friends. Everything is possible.

So, which ones of you are Marshmallows? High five!!!

    A Letter to Everything

    Dear husband
    Dear husband,
I’m opening this letter with one simple sentence for you: I love you. Those three words are exchanged for a gazillion times but I swear I mean it. I say it with more and more love everytime. This April, you’re turning 25 (a quarter of century!) and the same day will mark our third year of saying ‘I love you’s. And I’m so very super glad to be able to call you ‘my husband’ this year. I love you (for the umpteenth time).

    Dear Jess
    Dear Jess,
You’re fluffy and hyperactive and amazingly annoying and annoyingly amazing. Can you please lessen your nap time and spend the day cuddling and playing catch with me instead? I told my husband that I needed a cat to keep me company during the lonesome days when I was home and he was at work, but you’re not helping at all! No, just kidding. You’re entertaining even when you’re asleep. I love your tail, baby.

    Dear skin
    Dear skin,
I’m 23 and a half this month, so can we break up with the breakout already? It was fine during my teenage years because although my friends had flawless skins and I was the only pimpled-faced kid in high school, I accepted it because that was normal during puberty. But I’m an adult now! I want to wear make up without pimples making my eyebrows look ridiculously uneven (what pimples pop out on eyebrows, anyway?). Please?

    Dear April
    Dear April,
I have high hopes for you. I must say that I miss sunny days when the skies are blue and cloudless. I miss those days when I can do my laundry and hang it out and then go nap-nap without worrying if it will rain. Please bring the sun out, April. I’m counting on you.

    Dear readers,
We’re having a long weekend for Easter here in Indonesia. I stay at home to avoid the traffic. (Trust me. The roads practically become parking lots because the vehicles are not moving. At all.) But I’m going to spend these days cuddling with my husband and my cat and also finishing Veronica Mars #2, so Weekend Links won’t be up this weekend. It will be back next week. I hope your weekend is as relaxing as mine (if not more).

PS. I’ve created a new Facebook page for this blog. Give a girl a like? 😉

    Favourite Android Apps

    Favourite Android Apps
If you have met me in real life, you might have known that I’m always attached to my phone at any time, anywhere. I can’t even sleep before scrolling through 9GAG on my phone. I used to be obsessed with experimenting with my Android phones: rooting, changing the ROM, swapping the internal and external storage, etc. But after what feels like hundreds of bootloops, I reduced my curiousity and try to accept my phone as it is. Now that I got a new phone (it’s a white Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime) with bigger internal storage (8GB, rather than 4GB like my old Galaxy Ace 3), I don’t feel like rooting it and swapping the storages. The internal storage is big enough that I can download any app I need (or rather, want). Today, I would like to share my favourite Android apps. I won’t put Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Path on the list because duh, they’re everyone’s favourites!

    1. Apollo Music Player

    Apollo Music Player
A few years ago, I changed my phone’s ROM to Cyanogenmod. The custom ROM came with its own music player called Apollo. The interface was simple and easy to use. It also allowed us to control the player using the button on the earphone. I’ve found out that I can install Apollo on my Samsung phone because it is a stand alone app now. But it’s not available on Google Play Store so I had to download the apk file and install it manually on my phone. If you are interested, you can find the apk file here. I’m using a theme called eyeOS 7, which can be found on Google Play (along with other themes for Apollo).

    2. Aldiko

    Aldiko eBook Reader
Honestly, Aldiko is not my number one choice as my favourite ebook reader. My most favourite reader is ASUS’s MyLibrary Lite. However, it’s not available on Google Play Store nor can I find the apk file out there. It’s exclusive for ASUS gadgets only. I had it on my ASUS tablet, but the tablet is now used by my mum, so I had to find an alternative reader for my phone. For me, Aldiko is the second best. It has all the features of MyLibrary, minus that little page corner flip animation when you move to the next page. Aldiko also allows us to change screen brightness by sliding our finger up or down the screen. The font size is customizable too, so if you feel that the font is too small, you can change it. I have three books on my Aldiko shelf (plus one that pre-installed on Aldiko). I’m currently reading Veronica Mars #2 (right picture).

    3. Perfect Viewer

    Perfect Viewer Comic Books Reader
I’ve tried several comic books readers for Android, but I’ve found that this is the most convenient one to use. It’s free but has no ad. My 5 inch screen is actually a bit too small for reading comic books, but with Perfect Viewer, I can easily zoom in and out by pinching the screen. It also has a small indicator on the shelf marking which comics we’ve finished and which ones we’ve started reading but not yet finished. All in all, it’s super awesome.

    4. Bloglovin’

    Bloglovin' for Android
Oh… this app. Need I say more about this app? Well, basically it has all features that the web version has. The only thing I dislike about this app is that when I open a blog post it doesn’t directly open in my browser; instead, it opens in the Bloglovin’ app which only loads texts and images, but I can’t see the other things like the header and the sidebar. It loads faster, but not as pretty as if it opens in browser. But the app is very helpful for when we’re on the go and can’t log in to our laptops.

    5. Google Keep

    Google Keep for Android
This is a Google app but it doesn’t come pre-installed on my phone. I don’t know what is the reason behind it, but I think it should be pre-installed because it’s super helpful. It’s much more simple than Evernote and the likes, but it has pretty much the same functions. I love that I can take notes on my phone and can later open them on my laptop. I use it for various things from jotting groceries lists and ideas to keeping my bank account numbers (I have many. Haha!)

    6. Line Let’s Get Rich

    Line Let's Ger Rich
I don’t really like playing games on my phone because the small screen usually limits the fun and excitement. But this game is an exception. It takes much of my free time. I’m totally absorbed to it. It’s basically a monopoly game, but with various maps and cute characters from Line (the chatting app). You can play with your Line friends or you can play with random players from all over the world. However, you will need a strong and steady internet connection to play it. I played with an up and down connection once and I ended up getting kicked out because I lost my connection all of a sudden. And when you get kicked out, you also lose the game and you will lose your game points.

Are you an Android user or an iOS user? What are your favourite apps?

    Weekend Links

    Posted in weekend links by

It’s Sunday night here in Indonesia, so it means the weekend almost ends. But at least it’s still weekend, so here is my Weekend Links post! My mum went to Palembang earlier this week, so I was in Bandung mostly this week, staying at my parents’ house and taking care of my little sister while mum was away. And on Saturday, Afief and I did a major cleaning in our house because my dad’s family was coming on Sunday (or today). Nothing can beat our laziness like a news from a relative saying “We’re coming to your place tomorrow”, right? Haha! So we’re suuuuuuuuuperrr tired tonight, but the brighter side is that our office space is (mostly) done at last. I have a reading corner with a lot of light now. Yay! Perhaps someday I will post a home tour, how about that?

    Enough rambling, now links!

    • Have you ever tried seeing things from another point of views, like how Sauron is awesome because he creates millions of jobs?
    • I hate vegetables, especially the green ones. The only exception is broccoli. And this recipe looks awesome so I may try it someday (with less vegetables. Haha!)
    • Cat shares several tips so that you will never run out of blog post ideas. They’re so helpful!
    • I must admit that I’m a sucker for Instagram. I really love looking at my feed and seeing beautiful photos that people share. The cat hashtags are my absolute favourite. That’s why I think this “Catstacam” is the most important invention of this century.
    • I stumbled upon Laura’s blog and I really like it! Do you read her blog too? If not, this post about ways to grow your confidence is a good starter.
    • I downloaded a copy of Veronica Mars #2 Mr. Kiss and Tell a few weeks ago and yet I’m still on page 23. But I love it so far! Can’t wait to read more about Veronica and Logan. (I’m shipping LoVe since the beginning. Super glad to see they’re back together!)

Did you have fun this weekend?

Sponge Out of Water Movie Review

    Sponge Out of Water Poster
Another movie I watched last week was Sponge Out of Water. I wasn’t waiting for this movie, but when it came out, a bunch of old friends asked me to join them to watch it. I hadn’t seen them in a while so I decided to hang out with them. Spongebob Squarepants was a part of our favourite things to talk about when we were in junior high, so watching the movie with them made perfect sense. It made me feel nostalgic.
    Sponge Out of Water Review
The story is about yet another Plankton’s (failed) plan to steal Krabby Patty secret formula. Everything goes well until the formula vanishes. Spongebob is the only other person in that room so he is the only one who trusts that Plankton is innocent. The people of Bikini Bottom goes crazy due to the shortage of patties and Bikini Bottom goes into a doomsday. Spongebob and Plankton teams up to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the Krabby Patty formula. The investigation leads them to an adventure above the water.
Sponge Out of Water Movie Review
I must say that I found this movie a little disappointing. The story is so-so and the jokes are not that funny. The little kids were all laughing, but I didn’t even smile, except for the puns. The puns are hilarious, but I’m a big fan of puns, so there’s that. Compared to the previous Spongebob movie, this one fails miserably. Some people may enjoy it, but it’s just not for me.

Have you watched Sponge Out of Water? What do you think about it?
