  • Eating: D’poer Pizza and ShinMen

    Pizzas at D'poer Pizza Kopo

On Sunday morning, Afief and I had a brunch at D’poer Pizza. It’s a small pizzeria in Kopo, Bandung. We had two small pizzas, garlic bread, and soft drinks. I love D’poer Pizza because their pizza crust is hands down the best pizza crust I’ve ever tasted (even better than that of Pizza Hut and Dominos). Their prices are also considerably lower, so it’s a win for me.

And yesterday afternoon, I went out to see a bunch of uni friends. We had lunch at ShinMen in Paris van Java mall. ShinMen is a Japanese restaurant. We ordered ramen noodles. Mine was a Kimchi Ramen. I never really like Japanese food, so I didn’t think ramen was all that great. This Kimchi Ramen made it worse because it was made of 80% vegetables, 10% meat, and 10% noodle. I wanted noodle, but they gave me veggies. So… No. Not my taste.

After the lunch, we watched Kingsman: The Secret Service. It was soooo good. I may write a review this Thursday. See you then!

  • No-scale Pizza for Lazy Girls

It’s our first Saturday with nothing to do. We decided to stay at home after a week of commuting to Bandung. We’ve been super lazy since morning. We stayed in bed for hours, but when we finally got up, I decided to make a pizza. But since we don’t have kitchen scale (our kitchen still lacks a lot of stuff), I had to improvise. I made two attempts in making this pizza; the first one failed miserably (though still edible) but the second one was perfect. Trust me.

    What we need:
    For the dough
    – 9 tablespoons of flour
    – 1/4 teaspoons of salt
    – 1/2 tablespoons of cooking oil
    – 1/4 teaspoons of dry yeast
    – 1/3 small glass of warm water
    For the topping
    – 3 tablespoons of spaghetti sauce
    – 2 slices of burger meat; cut into smaller pieces
    – 1/2 onion; sliced into pieces
    – 1/2 potato; cut into small cubes
    – grated cheese

    Steps:
    – Put the flour into a medium-sized bowl. Add salt and stir. Make a small crate at the center of the mix.
    – Add the dry yeast to the warm water and stir. Put them into crate on the mix and add cooking oil.
    – Mix them all with your clean hands and then start kneading for about 15 minutes or until the dough is no longer sticky to the bowl and to your hands.
    – Leave the dough in the bowl for about 15 minutes.
    – After 15 minutes, you’ll notice that the dough is bigger now. Punch it as hard as you can, but make sure not to break the bowl.
    – Leave the dough in the bowl for about one to two hours.
    – Fry the burger meat and the potato cubes for 3 minutes. Dry them and set aside.
    – Prepare your baking pan. Put some flour (not too much) on its base so the pizza will not stick.
    – After two hours, put the dough into the baking pan. Spread it with your fingers so the dough cover all the pan’s surface. Don’t make it too thin or the pizza will be hard; don’t make it too thick either or the pizza will not be baked well. About 1 cm is better.
    – Pre-heat your oven at 220C for about 20 minutes.
    – Spread the spaghetti sauce on the dough. Put burger meat slices on top of it, followed by the potato cubes and onion. Lastly, cover them all with grated cheese.
    – Put it into the oven and bake for about 20 minutes or until the cheese start to look brown.
    – Slice and enjoy the pizza with a bottle of coke. Nothing beats pizza + coke combo.

Now, let us continue lazing around.

  • First Iftars

I think I’m turning into a bad blogger because I rarely take blog-worthy pictures anymore. I had iftar with Vicky on Friday and with A on Saturday, but the only picture I took was that of McFlurry and Tahu Brintik I had with A. I need to remind myself to take more pictures. More pictures, Dara!

Anyway, as I mentioned above, I finally went out to have iftar together with Vicky on Friday. We are in the process of starting a business together and we decided to have iftar and a meeting in Ngopdoel. We’ve reached an agreement and everything is almost settled. We will meet again tomorrow to open a joint bank account and sign the MOU. This is so exciting! I’ll post about the business as soon as everything is ready for the (re-)launching.
I also went out for iftar with A yesterday. We were a little bit late when we arrived at the restaurant and so we had to wait. We decided to have McFlurry and Tahu Brintik first, hence the picture. I hadn’t seen him for days so it was nice to spend the evening with him, even though it was only for a couple of hours.
The first week of Ramadan has passed. Three more weeks until the Eid!
  • idGeekGirls Share #2 Food and Social Media

Taking pictures of your food and then posting them up on Instagram has become such a common thing nowadays. It started out simply as a fun way to share what you were having for lunch, but then it got big and bigger, and now we what we call as foodstagrammers (I know this guy and this girl in real life). This phenomenon was what drove the idGeekGirls community to hold a small talk show called “idGeekGirls Share #2 Food and Social Media” on Saturday. This event took place in 90 Gourmet restaurant. There were four speakers and around 20 participants.

For about one hour, we talked about the effects of foodstagram (and food blogs in general) from restaurant owners’ point of view, how to write a good food review, how some restaurant owners handle complains delivered through social media, food styling, and many other things. I also met some people among the participants, like fellow bloggers, an owner of a newly opened restaurant, a reporter from a local newspaper, etc. We were given lunch of our choice (I chose Chicken Maryland which was super yummy), and then after we had our lunch, the event was closed with quizzes and giveaways.

For a free event, it was pretty awesome. The talk show was very informative and it gave me new knowledge in foodstagram and food blogging. Besides getting a big lunch, I also went home bringing a goodie bag plus a (huge) jar of cookies. I’m definitely looking forward to joining another event by idGeekGirls.

  • Weekend Wandering #3 Braga Culinary Night

Last Saturday, our new mayor launched another one of his many breakthrough programmes. After opening several themed parks (photography park, skate park, and the infamous jomblo park), he officially launched Braga Culinary Night. It’s a culinary festival similar to this, but being held on weekly basis. So from now on, every Saturday night, Braga street will be closed for vehicles and become a street full of food stalls.

However, due to the high enthusiasm of the local people plus tons and tons of visitors, the first day of Braga Culinary Night was like an enourmous traffic jam, only it was people there, not vehicles. It was super crowded; very crowded that you couldn’t even walk to the food stalls. You literally had to fight for your way there. We experienced what we thought was the most ironic thing in the world: being starving in a culinary festival.

But since this is a weekly event, I really hope that it will not be as crowded as the first opening for the weeks to come. I want to actually enjoy the food, the night, and the atmosphere as a whole.

    Oh and pictures!
