  • Dinner in Donwoori

Donwoori Jalan Lombok Bandung | Hola Darla
All things Korea have been popular quite a while now in my country. I remember all the hypes were started when I was in junior high. One of my best friends introduced us to Super Junior, a Korean boyband. Since then, everyone seems to be infected by this Korea fever, except me. I can even say that I hateeeeeeeee this trend. I can’t stand K-Pop and K-dramas. To me, all those Korean celebrities look like the same person. I really can’t wait for this trend to end already and being replaced by the comeback of Bollywood or telenovela trends (Thalia, anyone?)

Besides the rise of fame of K-Pop and K-dramas, K-food becomes popular too. Many Korean food restaurants start their business in the past years. And because of my hatred towards K-whatever, I’m not interested in trying any. However, I finally give Korean food a go when my girls met up for dinner in Donwoori last night.

Donwoori is a suki and Korean food restaurant located in 53 Lombok St., Bandung. The menu consists of all the popular Korean food like (bear with me, I don’t really know how to correctly spell them) Topokki, Bibimbap, Kimchi, Ramyun, and the likes. We ordered one plate of Topokki, which was enough for the four of us because the portion was quite large. Surprisingly (to me. Haha!), it tasted good! Not really unique because it tasted similar to a local dish called ‘seblak’, but still good. I may buy it again someday. May. Haha!

We also had Suki with Tom Yam and chicken broth sauce. The Tom Yam sauce was super yummy, while the chicken broth was so so. If you ever come to Donwoori, I suggest you try the Tom Yam sauce because it’s the best Tom Yam sauce I’ve ever had so far. No kidding.

The place was quite packed as it was Friday night, but it was cosy. The waiters and waitresses were very nice and we didn’t have to wait for too long for our order to come. The food and drinks were a bit pricy but still affordable. I’ll definitely come back, specifically for the Tom Yam sauce! 😉

  • Jurasik Fest 2015*

Jurasik Fest 2015 | Hola Darla
I just love Bandung so much. Like, so, so much. Bandung is a food heaven; even with hundreds of cafes and restaurants everywhere (some are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week), Bandung still offers you food festivals every other weekend. If last month I told you about Keuken, now I’m telling you about Jurasik Fest.

Jurasik Fest combines food with music and arts. We can buy various foods from food trucks and booths, and then sit on the chairs to enjoy local street bands’ performance. The available food and drink are not too variative, but the price is affordable! Cheapest among all the other food festivals, I’d say. There are plenty of chairs and tables, so we don’t have to eat while standing up (which is something I’m not comfortable of doing).

We had chicken satay, fried ice cream, apple smoothie, and slushies. I loveee all of them. I especially love the chicken satay. It was very tasty and very different than regular satay. The slushies were the kind I had never tried before. They were strawberry and grape flavoured. The grape one was too sweet for me, so I had the strawberry one. The packaging was very unique; it was a pouch instead of a cup.

Jurasik Fest will be held until this Saturday. If you’re in Bandung, you really should come! It’s located in the parking lot of Hollywood Bar, 38 Sumatera St. Cheap food and drink plus good music in just one place? Yes, please! 😉

Keuken was back! This year, the annual food festival was held in the Husein International Airport, which is located just a few minutes away from my parents’ house. Being the hipsters that we are, we didn’t miss our chance to go. The festival was located in one part of the airport’s runway, so it was super spacy, but there was no roof above us. It rained a little bit and the crowd dispersed, looking for a shelter. The food was not too unique; it was all the same like last year and two years ago. We bought french fries with nori sauce, taco (my very first taco), chicken rice, thai tea, milk shake, and takoyaki.

I think Keuken needs to be re-evaluated and re-arranged for future festivals. It got boring and boring each year. Same food, only different venue. If not, I don’t think I’ll go next year 🙁

  • The 2015 Asian African Carnival

Hi, guys! Just stopping by to write a quick post. I didn’t get the chance to write a Weekend Links post because I attended the 2015 Asian African Carnival. FYI, my city (Bandung) was where the first Asian African Conference was held in 1955. This year, the commemoretion is held as a big event. The city council prepared everything since the beginning of April. The event itself has started from 18 April, but the carnival was yesterday. I didn’t have the DSLR with me, so I only took several pictures using my phone. Sorry if the quality is not as good. See you on Tuesday!

  • Midday at Alun-Alun Bandung

When we were still dating, we spent our Saturdays by going out anywhere we could think of. We only had one day to spend together before the night fell and Afief had to drive me home safe & sound before my curfew, so we almost always left my house early in the morning and spent the whole day jumping from one place to another.

But now that we’re married, we can spend our weekends doing whatever we like. No more curfew and no more angry parents if I come home late (that’s one of the many benefits of being married :p). We can cuddle all day, or we can go on a roadtrip to another city (just like last week). There’s a washback, though. Like for last Saturday, we had no idea what to do. We wanted to go out, but we didn’t know where to. When it was already 11am, we decided to go to Alun-Alun Bandung (Bandung’s City Plaza). Recently, the mayor reconstructed it and made some significant changes to the plaza, i.e. putting on a huge synthetic grass there so the people can go picnic there or just sitting around. We hadn’t seen the plaza after the reconstruction, so it was a good idea to go there.

We only spent like one hour there because it was so sunny and so hot. But when we we decided to go to Ciwalk to play Pump It Up, the sky suddenly became dark and a storm hit the city. The wind was scary and it made me thankful that we had already left the plaza, or else we would be soaking wet and cold. We made it home safely, though, as the storm only occured for about one hour. The storm set aside, the day was super fun 😉

On a different note, you might have noticed that the pictures on this blog have worse quality lately. I gave my DSLR to my little sister, so I rely solely on my phone camera. So sorry for the inconvenience; I know they hurt your eyes. I’m saving for a new pocket camera, but have yet to decide what type I’m going to buy. Do you have any suggestion? Hit me up on the comment section or mention me on Twitter (@DarlaOct).

    See you guys around!
