What Have I Become???

Posted in EN, musics by

Some of you who follow me on Instagram and Twitter probably already know that I’m kinda obsessed with something right now; something that people who truly know me would never have guessed that I’d end up liking, let alone obsessed with. Yeah, friends… I’m obsessed with a Korean band! (WHAAAAA????)

Back in high school, I was some kind of a hater of all things K-pop. I just didn’t understand why a lot of people could be so into dancing groups. The most popular group back then was Super Junior and a friend of mine couldn’t stop talking about them. I just rolled my eyes. Ugh… so annoying, right? Well, no. LOL.

As I grew up and grew old, I started to realize that people are allowed to have different tastes. Some people like K-pop, some just don’t; and that’s totally fine. We just have to respect each other’s opinions.

And then, just last month, I decided to listen to Day6 after listening to Rich Brian x eaJ’s Love In My Pocket for the umpteenth time (I was really into Rich Brian’s newest EP a few months ago). And… I had to admit that I really enjoyed Day6’s Zombie.

Then I started to listen to other songs. And… I love them all! These are my kind of musics!

Turns out, I didn’t hate Korean music, I just hadn’t found the right genre. I’m not a fan of dance songs, I’m an alternative rock kind of girl. And I swear Day6 is perfect. They’re a band, not a dance group. They remind me so much of Lifehouse and Noah (back when they were Peterpan <fun fact: Day6 performed Noah’s song in their concert in Jakarta>).

During the 2020 pandemic, I have rewatched all music videos and listened to all the songs from my favorite bands like Lifehouse, Fall Out Boy, Boys Like Girls, The All-American Rejects, etc., so finding about Day6 is refreshing for me because I can find new (at least to me) contents to watch/listen to. However, I chose a very bad time to start liking them because they’re currently on hiatus, so I’m just watching old clips on YouTube and eventually I’ll run out of contents to watch too ?

I’m super new to these whole K-pop things. With western bands, you just buy their albums, watch their music videos and live performances, and maybe buy some merchandise like t-shirts or hoodies and the likes. But with K-pop, oh my god… so much stuff!

The albums are usually released in several different versions, like individual member album covers or special editions with booklets and other bonuses. There are also light sticks, photo cards, mascot plushies, and many more. You also get SO MANY video content on the internet. I kinda understand now how K-pop can be so popular: because they spoil their fans.

As for me, so far I’ve bought a phone case and a neck pillow. I hope this obsession will not get out of control ?

Alright, I’m out. STAN DAY6, Y’ALL!!!

Ps. Please give this song that has a strong anime soundtrack vibe a try.

I had a great time with that, too. Despite the high quality of the visuals and the prose, you find yourself eagerly anticipating what happens next. If you decide to defend this walk, it will basically be the same every time.
